Educating for brighter tomorrows
Advancing futures for girls with schooling, wellbeing, and local engagement
The Raheli Trust was started in 2008 by women in the UK who had benefited from free education and wanted provide that opportunity to girls whose families were unable to pay school fees in Tanzania.
We started as a partnership with Archbishop Kahurananga secondary school in Kigoma and since 2019 have supported students at Bishop Mpango secondary school in Kibondo, where students are boarders. In that time, Raheli Trust has supported more than 130 students.
The charity is run by experienced trustees who are all volunteers. Sponsorship money goes towards paying school fees, board, food, books and equipment of the most disadvantaged girls in their communities. Additional money from donations and from HMRC tax relief also enables the Trust to pay for science equipment, books and IT equipment to support their education. Trustees make regular visits to Tanzania to tour the schools and colleges and meet with our students, alumni and CBO members.
The Trust is supported by certified Community Benefit Organisations (CBOs) in Kigoma and Kibondo. They manage the Trust’s funds and support communication with our students, pay fees and provide financial reports, receipts and feedback on exam results and our students. The CBOs work with the local community to identify children most at need sitting their entrance exams.
The CBO in Kigoma was set up in October 2019 and is run by Madam Rose (chair), Madam Floriana (secretary) Madam Mpango and Madam Rehema (treasurers). Madam Floriana was a former chair of governors at Archbishop Kahurananga School, Madam Rose was headmistress for 10 years and Madams Mpango and Rehema were the school’s accountant and secretary (pictured below).

Mr Emily Jackson Mwarabu is an Ambassador for the Trust, a function he carries out in addition to his post of Director Studies at a college for health sciences. He provides support to our college and university students and administers our funds for them.

Trustees of the CBO in Kibondo are Bishop Sospeter, headmaster Lameck Filbert, Swanmu Ahmad Hussein, a local businesswomen and Happiness Ndenza, a Trust alumnus.
