What we do

The Raheli Trust currently supports students for four years at Bishop Mpango Secondary School in Kibondo (BMP) and after that at various high schools, colleges and university throughout Tanzania. From 2009 to 2024, the Trust supported students at Archbishop Kahurananga Secondary School in Kigoma.

Raheli students have excelled in their studies at Bishop Mpango Secondary School which, itself, has gone from strength to strength, increasing its numbers from less than 100 to 200-plus pupils. In the Form Four 2023 National Examinations, all Raheli students achieved Division One, the highest category. In September 2022, the school was ranked 4th out of 23 schools in the district and 19th out of 178 in the region thanks to the hard work of headmaster, Lameck Filbert Nkomart, and his teachers.

Facilities at the boarding school are very basic and it is in urgent need of funds for books, equipment  and computers. It has only six working computers for 203 students which means there is a queuing system for national exams which have to be completed online. Books and laboratory equipment have been provided by the Trust from donations.

Work is underway to replace the kitchen (above) and the school is in need of a new hall and better washing facilities for students. Access to water is another priority. It costs the school up to US$8,000 a year to buy water and they are hoping to build a well. Dormitories, the laboratory and library also require upgrading.

Supporting students in further education

The Trust also sponsors students who have been successful in the Secondary School National Examinations to go on to high school, vocational college and university, where they have gained diplomas, certificates and degrees.

We encourage students to take less expensive vocational courses which offer good career prospects. The Roman Catholic College, where we have students, focuses on diploma courses in social work, health services such as nursing or clinical medicine, community support and pharmacy.
